For 75 years, Journey Mental Health Center has been a beacon of hope and support for individuals struggling with mental health and substance use challenges. Now, in celebration of our 75th anniversary, we are embarking on a remarkable journey of our own – a fundraising campaign called "Light the Path from Hope to Recovery." With a bold goal of raising $750,000, this campaign aims to continue and expand the vital services that Journey’s incredible staff provide.

Journey Mental Health Center is thrilled to announce a generous donation of $360,000 that will profoundly impact the accessibility and quality of mental health services in our community.

This landmark contribution, made by Roots and Wings Foundation, marks a significant milestone in our ongoing pursuit to address mental health challenges, reduce stigma, and improve the well-being of individuals in our area. The gift was made in honor of Journey’s 75^th anniversary campaign “Light the Path from Hope to Recovery”.

Journey's President and CEO, Tanya Lettman-Shue, expressed profound gratitude for this generous donation, stating, "This significant contribution will make a tangible difference in the lives of those struggling with mental health and substance use challenges. It is a testament our community’s compassionate spirit, and it will enable us to sustain and grow our services, ultimately leading to healthier and happier lives for many."

Roots & Wings is a family foundation established in 2019 by Judy and Gordon Faulkner. Roots & Wings makes grants across the fields of healthcare, early learning, basic needs, and family safety. The Foundation supports non-profit organizations that help low-income children and families reach their full potential through prevention, early intervention, and in-depth programming that changes lives. It is with extreme gratitude that I share that Journey’s advocacy efforts with the Dane County Executive, Dane County Board of Supervisors, and community partners have been successful. Journey is pleased to announce that Dane County’s 2024 budget will include a 7% contractual increase for all Journey programs supported by the Dane County Department of Human Services, as well as, an additional $1.065 million investment in Journey’s Emergency Service Unit. Those funds will be used to increase salaries for Emergency Services staff that work nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays providing crisis services to the Dane County community. The Emergency Services staff work alongside our hospitals, clinics, police, fire, schools, etc. It could not have been accomplished without the support of Joureny staff, Joureny's Board of Directors, community partners, the Dane County Executive, and the Dane County Board of Supervisors. Dane County is experiencing a record demand for crisis service in the post-pandemic era, and we look forward to continuing to partner to improve the community crisis response.

What You Need To Know

• Each response team consists of two members: one from the Madison Fire Department community paramedics and the other a Journey Mental Health crisis worker
•  If calls are flagged as non-violent by the 911 dispatch center, the CARES Team responds
• The team now works 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends
• If you are experiencing a behavioral health crisis you can call 911 and request a crisis intervention-trained officer or the CARES Team

The City of Madison & Journey’s Cares Team received an award for First Responder of the Year.

The Madison CARES team was nominated by State Representative Francesca Hong (D, 76th Assembly District). Ten CARES members were recognized for being "an asset to the Madison community since its inception in 2021," recognizing their work responding to non-violent behavioral health emergencies in the community. The CARES team was also credited for "working innovatively to make our society safer."

Our friends Pat and Michael from Mad City Disc Golf Club stopped by to show their support of Journey with a generous donation! MadMando Discs matched their contribution, and we're so thankful for the disc golf community's support of mental health.

Journey at Center for Healthy Minds 

Journey was proud to be a non-profit community sponsor for The Center for Healthy Minds’ event on November 8^th, “The World We Make”. Presenters from UW-Madison and special guests explored belonging and connecting across differences to promote well-being and flourishing.
