Presenter Bios:
Joonwoo Lee
Joonwoo Lee (pronouns: he/him/his) is a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a lab member at Trans CARE Collaborative. His main research and clinical focus are on working with trans and nonbinary (TNB) individuals. Particularly, he is interested in addressing internalized transnegativity and parental relational trauma among TNB individuals. Currently, Joonwoo is working on a research project that investigates how complex trauma experience might affect TNB people’s resilience to minority stressors. As part of the TransCARE lab, he is currently involved in developing intervention strategiesfor trans people of color with a radical healing framework.
Marquel Norton
Marquel (they/any pronouns) is a first-year doctoral student in the Department of Counseling Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Marquel was a formerly licensed School Psychologist in Massachusetts. As a Black and queer researcher and therapist in training, they prioritize learning from community-engaged research to understand the need for mental health providers in trans and queer communities of color. Broadly, their research focuses on the wellbeing of Black trans and queer community, with emphasis the mediating effects of authenticity, critical consciousness, belonging, and place-making activities. Their work is heavily informed by a wide-range of critical theoriesincluding Black Queer Studies, Trans of Color Critique/Black Trans Studies, Critical Race Theory, and Affect Theory. They enjoy all things Black and liberatory
Stephanie Budge
Stephanie Budge (she/her) is a licensed psychologist and an associate professor in the Department of Counseling Psychology and the Director of the Advancing Health Equity and Diversity program in the Collaborative Center for Health Equity at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her clinical work and research focus on improving medical and psychotherapy treatments (and accessto care) for Two Spirit, trans, and nonbinary (2STNB) youth and adults. She founded the Trans CARE Collaborative at UW-Madison. Dr. Budge is currently an Associate Editor of Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity. She is also on the editorial board of the International Journal of Transgender Health. She loves to make pasta from scratch and to go hiking with her wife and toddler.
