Trauma Informed Care is a movement that has made its way across the nation and into different helping and service fields. Wisconsin was an early adopter of TIC principles.
In the 10+ years since it arrived, we’ve learned to change the question from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?” Person-first language has made its way into our service vernacular. We have welcomed peer support specialists to our teams. We are beginning to appreciate the imperative of self-care to avoid secondary traumatization and burnout. We’ll take a look at what research says about how it has improved services.
We’ll examine at the ways in which Trauma Informed Care is evolving with new perspectives and new language shifts. We’ll consider how these new voices are broadening our understanding of the many ways the people are exposed to trauma in their lives. Join us for a lively discussion about how this movement continues to transform the way we care for people and support recovery.
