Trauma-Informed Care is a movement that has made its way across the nation and into different helping and service fields. Wisconsin was an early adopter of this principle, and in the 10+ years since it arrived, it is common to see many things be described as "trauma-informed."
But what does that mean for the individual service provider? What does it mean to be a trauma-informed therapist, case manager, team leader or program support specialist? This training will discuss the elements of Trauma Informed Care as well as specific practical examples. We will consider the reasons why understanding trauma is critical to supporting recovery. We will take a closer look at trauma and learn to "drop the trauma lens" and notice what we see. We will shift the question from "what is wrong with you?" to "what happened to you?" We will discuss how trauma-informed care can improve the work we do, but also help ourselves avoid burnout.
Audience: Requirement for Dane County Human Service CCS staff. Appropriate for clinicians, program support staff, and administrative staff.
