Training Details:
This training is intended to help clinicians learn best practices in suicide risk assessment. This training will offer 4.0 CE hours *NBCC/ACEP #6760, for eligible participants. Participants will become familiar with national suicide data, and risk and protective factors for suicide. They will develop an understanding of the psychology of suicide, and learn strategies for interviewing patients, formulating risk, and responding effectively. This training includes small group breakouts to apply the information by utilizing a case example for discussion.
Training Objectives:
At the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Summarize the risk and protective factors for suicide
- Identify the 4 components of suicidality
- Employ techniques for eliciting risk
- Increase confidence in responding to suicide risk
- Thoroughly document risk assessments
*Journey Mental Health Center has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6760. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credits are clearly identified. Journey Mental Health Center is solely responsible for all aspects of this program.
Presenters Bio:
Sarah Henrickson, MSSW, LCSW, is a Clinical Team Manager in Journey Mental Health Center’s Emergency Services Unit. She has over 20 years of experience providing crisis intervention services, including suicide risk assessments and evaluations for involuntary psychiatric admissions. After several years as an embedded crisis worker with Madison Police Department, she now oversees embedded crisis workers with multiple first responder agencies. Sarah conducts trainings for law enforcement, clinicians, other service providers and community members on a variety of topics including mental illness, suicide risk, and Chapter 51 civil commitments.
