Details: This is the Racial Trauma Module and DAY 3 of the CBITS Curriculum. Please attend this training if you have completed the CBITS Curriculum on November 9th and 10th or you have completed the CBITS Curriculum prior to 2020. Community facilitators and two student support services staff per school may attend. Presenters Bio:
Won-Fong Lau Johnson, PhD, NCSP, Assistant Director of Service Systems at UCLA-Duke National Center for Child Traumatic Stress.
Dr. Johnson is certified as a Parent-Child and Interaction Therapy (PCIT) Therapist, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), and a Certified Trainer in Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Trauma in Schools (CBITS).
Currently, Dr. Lau Johnson holds a position at the University of Washington in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the Public Behavioral Health and Justice Policy Division, where she is involved in research in trauma-informed care. Prior to this, Dr. Lau Johnson was the Clinic Director of the training clinic in the School Psychology program at University of Washington.
Nelsie Stern is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been practicing for 10 years. With a focus on trauma therapy, she has worked with children and families in New Orleans and Madison. Nelsie is the manager for the REST (Resilient response to the Effects of Stress and Trauma) Program which helps schools identify and support students with social emotional and mental health needs. The REST Program provides Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) groups for 8 school districts across Dane County. She is a co-chair of the Children’s Mental Health Collaborative.
In 2011, Kimby Schult Hughes completed her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education where she researches trauma-informed pedagogy and pre-service teacher preparation. Though clinically trained to work with individuals, couples, and families, Kimby currently devotes most of her time toward school-based interventions for youth impacted by trauma and related mental health needs. She works within the REST (Resilient response to the Effects of Stress and Trauma) Program at Journey Mental Health Center. Kimby has a heart for justice, proactive collaboration, and wholistic care. She utilizes her decade of experience in the non-profit world, knowledge of organizational development, clinical expertise, and research training to promote equity-centered mental health care for youth in Dane County.
