Details: This is DAY 2 of the CBITS Curriculum. Please attend this training if you plan to facilitate a CBITS group this year and did not complete the curriculum training prior to 2020. If you attend this training, please also sign up for DAY 1 (October 11) and DAY 3 (half day October 13). Community facilitators and two student support services staff per school may attend and must complete DAY 1 (October 11). Presenters Bio:
Audra Langley, Ph.D. is a Professor at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Langley is Director of Training for the NCTSN-funded Treatment Services Adaptation Center for Resiliency, Hope and Wellness in Schools and Co-Director of the UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families. She also directs UCLA TIES for Families, an innovative interdisciplinary program for children in foster care, kinship care or adopted through foster in Los Angeles County. Dr. Langley’s body of research seeks to increase equity in access to quality mental health and wellbeing interventions for under-resourced populations of children, including those in schools and involved with the child welfare system. She is the author of 5 evidence-based interventions, including Bounce Back: Elementary School Intervention for Childhood Trauma, Support for Students Exposed to Trauma (SSET), and the recently released 2nd version of Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS).
Nelsie Stern is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has been practicing for 10 years. With a focus on trauma therapy, she has worked with children and families in New Orleans and Madison. Nelsie is a Program Manager for several programs at Journey Mental Health Center. She manages the Mental Health First Aid program in Madison and surrounding areas and Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) program for 5 school districts across Dane County. She is an active member of the Children’s Mental Health Collaborative and co-chairs the Best Practice Committee.
In 2011, Kimby Schult Hughes completed her Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education where she researches trauma-informed pedagogy and pre-service teacher preparation. Though clinically trained to work with individuals, couples, and families, Kimby currently devotes most of her time toward school-based interventions for youth impacted by trauma and related mental health needs. She works within the REST (Resilient response to the Effects of Stress and Trauma) Program at Journey Mental Health Center. Kimby has a heart for justice, proactive collaboration, and wholistic care. She utilizes her decade of experience in the non-profit world, knowledge of organizational development, clinical expertise, and research training to promote equity-centered mental health care for youth in Dane County.
