American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) Criteria is an approved level of care placement criteria per Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Chapter 75. This training is designed to offer an introduction to ASAM Criteria and ASAM levels of care. Participants will have the opportunity to practice utilizing the ASAM Criteria and level of care placement through case studies and small group discussion.
Learning Objectives:
Training participants will:
- Identify and describe the six ASAM criteria Assessment Dimensions
- Identify appropriate patient level of care
- Increase confidence in the use of the tool
Presenters Bio:
James Pearson, LCSW, CSAC, CS-IT, IDP-IT, MSW
James is the Clinical Internship Team Manager at Journey, where he has worked for the last 10 years. James has 20 years of professional experience in the behavioral health field. James is an adjunct instructor for Edgewood College, teaching a psychology course on drugs. James completed several ASAM trainings, including 5 days of training through Train for Change. James has presented on a variety of topics, including substance use disorders (SUD), co-occurring disorders, stigma, progression of SUD, emerging substances, and the intersection of SUD and the Criminal Justice System.
*Journey Mental Health Center has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6760. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credits are clearly identified. Journey Mental Health Center is solely responsible for all aspects of this program.
